Erasmus - Eric Carle Art
About the Project
As part of our school’s involvement in the Erasmus Project, which links students and staff across the world, we embarked on an Art project inspired by the work of Eric Carle. This fitted very nicely into our Collingwood Arts Festival 2021.
Eric Carle was an American-German author, designer and illustrator of children’s books. His picture book The Very Hungry Caterpillar, first published in 1969, has been translated into more than 66 languages and sold more than 50 million copies. He illustrated more than 70 books, most of which he also wrote, and more than 145 million copies of his books have been sold around the world.
His artwork was created as collage, using hand-painted papers, which he cut and layered to form bright and colourful images. This fascinating technique is one we thought worth exploring so let’s visit the Art Studio at Collingwood where our very own Miss Blake has created a series of short videos which explain the technique and makes it easy for you to enter the world of Eric Carle.
“Simplify, slow down, be kind. And don’t forget to have art in your life – music, paintings, theatre dance, and sunsets.”
