Her Grace, The Duchess of Northumberland officially opened Collingwood School and Media Arts College’s new site – The Woodlands.

In attendance at this hugely successful event were Collingwood’s Governing Board, representatives of Northumberland County Council David Street (Director of Education, SEND and skills), Sue Aviston (Head of school organisation and resources), County Councillor John Beynon and various Collingwood partners who have sponsored the development of the centre.

Head teacher Gillian Linkleter commented, “It was an absolute privilege to have the centre opened by Her Grace. She was supportive of the initiative and encouraged the pupils to discuss what their school means to them. The centre will further enhance the life chances of pupils”.

The Duchess said, “Some of us learn better using vocational teaching and training than the standard classroom environment. I think whatever works; the main thing is you get skills for life in whatever way possible.”
