Anti-Bullying at Collingwood
At Collingwood, we believe that every learner deserves the right to feel safe, secure and valued and we are proud to maintain a proactive, zero-tolerance attitude to bullying in any degree or form across every aspect of school life.
Collingwood is a core member of the Anti-Bullying Alliance and our Anti-Bullying Leads, Mrs Major and Mr Elliott, ensure that every member of staff here at school is aware of signs and symptoms, is fully trained in how to support our young people and can effectively document and report any issues.
In all instances:
- Victims of bullying are listened to, taken seriously, and informed of what action will be taken, they are reassured that all possible steps will be taken to ensure their safety.
- Staff will act discreetly to ensure that problems are dealt with sympathetically.
- Staff will ensure that parents and carers are contacted and kept informed on what action the school decides to take.
- Staff will also contact parents and carers of those that are doing the bullying, and inform them also of the school’s actions.
- Parents of learners involved in bullying will be informed of possible future actions.
We are aware of the changing nature of bullying. Of the many forms bullying can take, the main types are:
- Physical, (Hitting, Kicking, Theft).
- Verbal, (Name Calling, threats etc.).
- Racism (Targeting others due to ethnicity or religious beliefs).
- Homophobic bullying (Targeting others due to their sexual orientation).
- Indirect, (Spreading rumours, excluding someone from social groups and targeting more vulnerable learners i.e. physically disabled etc.).

The Anti-Bullying Quality Mark (ABQM) is a prestigious recognition awarded to schools that demonstrate a strong commitment to preventing and addressing bullying. Achieving this mark shows that the school has implemented effective anti-bullying strategies and fosters a positive, inclusive environment where all students feel safe, respected, and supported.
Schools that earn the ABQM have proven their dedication to reducing bullying incidents through staff training, student engagement, and clear policies that promote kindness and tolerance. It highlights a school’s ongoing efforts to empower students, encourage positive relationships, and create a culture of respect, inclusion, and emotional well-being for all.
