Personal Development

Intent

Personal Development (PD) is at the centre of our school learning journey. Collingwood School and Media Arts College aims to encourage, promote and instil a range of skills that allow children to be life-long learners.

We aim to provide wider opportunities and experiences in addition to our curriculum offer to maximise individual pupil development. We support pupils to acquire the knowledge, understanding and skills they need to manage their lives as independently as possible, now and in the future. We support pupils to connect and apply the knowledge and understanding they learn in all subjects to practical, real-life situations while helping them to feel safe and secure enough to fulfil their potential.

Our approach promotes effective and positive relationships between all members of the school community. The promotion of pupils’ personal and social development underpins other learning across curriculum areas.

PD opportunities assists children and young people to build their personal identities, confidence and self-esteem and understand what influences their decisions. Developing self-understanding, empathy and the ability to work with others helps our pupils to enjoy healthy and productive relationships in all
